It is that time of year when our Facilities Staff goes through the marina slip by slip – boat by boat to inspect your power cord and shore power outlet. This is a yearly inspection we complete to ensure each boat and slip are correctly connected to power and each power cord/outlet is in good working condition. The inspection requires the power to temporary be shut off to your slip. The below schedule indicates when your dock will tested.
What will they be looking for:
- Outlets are securely fastened and there are no signs of corrosion or burn marks.
- Power cords are in good condition.
- Power outlet and cord are not experiencing abnormal high temperatures.
What is not allowed:
- Non-marine grade power cords. Must be a minimum of a 30amp cord running from the power outlet on to the boat. No 15amp extension cords allowed as a permanent source of power.
- Cord that are showing signs of power arcing or burn marks.
- Cords that have gouges or handmade repairs.
If our team inspects any cord that is deemed a hazard we will promptly contact the boater and explain the issue. If you have any questions you can contact the Harbormaster’s Office and we can put you in touch with our Facility staff.
